GEMÜ Aseptic Diaphragm Valves

GEMÜ aseptic diaphragm valves are primarily used in sterile applications in the pharmaceutical, food, and biotechnology industries. These valves are used for the handling and distribution of ultra pure media, such as in the fields of semiconductors and microelectronics, as well as for applications in the field of fine chemicals. Depending on the version selected, they are suitable for ultra pure water (Water for Injection), ultra high purity chemicals, intermediate and final products in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, food processing, and the chemical industry. The valves can be sterilized and autoclaved within the bounds of their technical use parameters. Aseptic diaphragm valves are also used successfully as control valves in sterile areas.

APPLICATION

GEMÜ manufactures a full offering of diaphragm valves for hygienic and high purity applications in industries like food, beverage, pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, personal care, and fine chemical processing. GEMÜ diaphragm valves offer multiple valve functions while maintaining aseptic or sterile and hermetically sealed conditions. Valves can be configured to provide integral sampling and multi-port functions, to minimize deadleg, and to enable full trainability. The sterilizable and autoclavable design of GEMÜ valves also provides for operational efficiency in cleaning cycles.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

GEMÜ valves feature the original GEMÜ seal system, allowing the valve and diaphragm to provide a distinct sealing edge. This measure reduces the ring-shaped gap between diaphragm and valve body in the external sealing area. This special feature makes GEMÜ diaphragm valves suitable for sterile applications. Only the diaphragm and the valve body are in contact with the medium.

2/2-Way and T-Body Valves

2/2-Way Bodies

2/2-way or straight-through valve bodies from GEMÜ are available in a variety of configurations. Bodies are available in investment casting, forged body, and block material styles in several material options. Valve assemblies can be configured using elastomer or PTFE diaphragms and any of GEMÜ's manual handles or air actuators.

2/2-way manual or automated valves are suitable for ultra pure water (WFI), ultra high purity chemicals and intermediate or final products in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and food processing industries.

T-Bodies

T Bodies or 3/2-way valves are primarily installed in ring mains. This allows the working medium to be fed or drawn off vertically and almost deadleg free.

All valves feature the GEMÜ seal system and are available with many weld, clamp, union, and flange connections.

Welded Valve Configurations

GEMÜ W600 two-valve configurations are based on the use of two valve bodies that are directly welded to one another, whose arrangement is matched to the respective application. Welded configurations offer an affordable option with minimal deadleg, since no tee fittings or additional welds are required. W600 assemblies are available in multiple configurations, including SAP (Sterile Access Port) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) configurations.

Multi-Port Valve Blocks

Multi-port valve blocks combine multiple functions in the smallest of spaces. By combining two or more traditional diaphragm valves into a single block, many advantages are realized: the residual volume of media in the system is reduced in a measurable way, the flow is optimized, and draining is improved. This enhances the performance capability of the entire system and reduces media consumption. Another advantage of blocks is that they provide junction points within the plant. This allows easier cleaning and servicing. GEMÜ multi-port valve block systems are tried and tested leak-proof units.

Multi-port blocks provide many benefits to the user. The block design can be applied to endless valve styles and needs, and it results in fewer welds, much smaller space requirements, and less hold-up volume. Users can expect shorter installation times and increased reliability due to a reduction in connection points.

M600 Multi-Port Bodies

M600 valves are completely configurable valve blocks that integrate two, three or more valves and functions into a single block. Some common designs include T-valve bodies with optional sterile access ports (SAP), GMP valves, and multi-valve manifolds, but the possibilities of M600 valves are endless. Custom designs can be created to transform almost any multi-valve assembly into a compact block, reducing the hold-up volume of the assembly significantly.

I-BODIES

GEMÜ i-bodies are a special version of the classic 2/2-way bodies. "i" stands for integrated sampling, steam, and condensate valve, where two seats and three tube connections are offered in a single body. These valves offer an intermediate, moderate cost alternative to an M-block. The valve bodies are manufactured from a forged blank or a piece of block material. The major advantages of i-bodies over standard sampling or condensate valves include minimized deadleg because there are fewer welds, the ability to make draining possible in the vertical installation position, and available horizontal spigots.

Tank Valve Bodies

Tank valves are often welded to the lowest point in the base of the tank for use as outlet valves. This allows the tank to be fully drained, cleaned, and sterilized. In addition to this, valves can also be fitted or welded to the tank cover, as well as fitted or welded to the tank wall.

GEMÜ's B600 series of tank valve bodies offer a compact design with optimized draining and minimal deadleg. The sealing weir of the B600 tank valve sits very tightly against the tank wall, meaning that the dead space in the tank itself is kept to an absolute minimum. The geometry has been designed with special kidney-shaped contours in such a way that the tanks can be optimally drained, cleaned, and sterilized. To ensure that the outlet or tank valve fulfills the strict requirements of sterile applications, GEMÜ also offers customized designs alongside its standard versions.
