FD Digital Reference Thermometer

Applications

The FD DART digital reference thermometer is the only digital thermometer available today that complies with the applicable provisions of the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO). With accuracy greater than twice that of mercury-in-glass (MIG) pasteurization thermometers, the DART assures consistent processing. Unlike conventional thermometers, which must be viewed at the process location, the DART display may be located up to 1500 feet from the sensor.

Standard Design

Dual-element DART sensors are built to meet 3-A Sanitary Standards and are interchangeable, requiring no field calibration. As with all critical temperature instruments, DARTs are calibrated to Anderson’s exacting performance requirements and are traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

The device also meets requirements for use as an Alternative Temperature Indicating Device (ATID) on Retort cookers. A Quick Disconnect Receptacle (QDR) sensor connection is also available for Retort and non-PMO applications.

Working Principle

The dual-element sensor and proprietary comparator circuitry assure fail-safe performance; and self-diagnostics guarantee continued, reliable service. The DART has an internal test feature that allows for easy verification of accuracy and performance by the regulators.

FJ Digital Temperature Gauge Life Sciences

Application

The FJ Digital Temperature Gauge Life Sciences provides high-accuracy temperature monitoring in an operator-friendly, accessible design. The FJ offers new options for remote mounting, as well as high and low switches for critical applications where user-defined setpoints can be easily programmed.

Working Principle

The battery-operated version can be ordered with or without a secondary 100 ohm 3-wire RTD, which is ideal for applications that require local indication as well as remote recording. Since only one vessel penetration is required, a cost savings can be realized.

The DC powered version supplies two SPST low voltage contacts assigned to the adjustable setpoints. An optional remote relay module that provides SPDT relays rated 6 amps at 250 VAC is also available.

STANDARD DESIGN

All FJ digital temperature gauges feature simple field calibration for fine tuning to the plant reference standard. As such, the FJ makes a perfect and cost-effective replacement for any mechanical thermometer, from bi-metals to mercury-in-glass. With resolution to a tenth of a degree, the FJ takes the guesswork out of reading dials and mercury columns.

SW/SA/CT Sanitary RTD Components & Transmitters

Application

Resistance Thermometer Detectors (RTDs) produce more accurate and repeatable readings, when compared to thermocouples. Used alone (configured with a sealed cable or quick disconnect), RTDs provide varying resistance according to the temperature, which can quickly and accurately be translated to a temperature by a processor.

When configured with a CT wiring head, the resistance provided by the RTD is translated to a 4-20 mA signal at the sensor. The CT wiring head is ideal when a display is desired at the sensing point, or when a TA transmitter is required.

Transmitters are available in analog and HART SMART versions. The SA version is available for food applications, while the SW version is suitable for the life sciences.

The SA and CT are designed to meet 3-A Sanitary Standards.

Working Principle

Anderson-Negele's SA and SW RTD sensors are 100 ohm, 3-wire DIN standard elements designed for direct immersion in sanitary applications or in any of a wide variety of thermowells. The RTDs utilize a platinum element. A current is applied to the element. When the temperature of the element increases, the resistance through the element increases. Measuring the resistance across the wires of the RTD correlates easily to a temperature. The RTDs utilize a 3-wire configuration to increase the accuracy of the resistance measurement by compensating for the resistance in the wiring itself.

The SA and SW RTDs are supplied standard with a single element, for use with or without a wiring head. Dual-element RTDs can be specified for when two outputs are needed and must be ordered with wiring leads for use with a CT wiring head.

StANDARD DESIGN

Single element styles may be specified with factory sealed, shielded cables up to 200 feet in length, in an unique modular design, or with the new water-tight quick disconnect. The modular elements can be mated with a standard wiring head for analog or SMART transmitter applications, with or without an integral display. Also available is a mini wiring head for stand-alone RTD applications, optionally available with a new mini (4-20mA) transmitter module.

All dual element sensors are supplied in the modular configuration, now available with dual output wiring heads as well. All sensors feature completely sealed internals for maximum moisture and vibration resistance. They provide the fastest possible response characteristics due to our unique method of internal element attachment which eliminates all air and non-metallic materials between the element and the process material being monitored.

Components can be factory or field assembled in the optimum configuration for any application. To further facilitate adaptability, the RTDs are offered with the widest selection of sanitary clamp and thermowell fittings and with sealed cable, quick disconnect, or wiring heads options.

Working Principle

Certification of calibration against an NIST traceable source is provided with each unit. For facilities with in-house metrology capability, the DTG offers up to five user configurable calibration points, allowing the user to fine tune to match the in-house reference.
